Flexing Down and Taking the Contact
Teaching your horse to take 'the contact' is an important part of teaching a horse how to use their body correctly. Using a wide, high and soft hand, you can gently coax your horse to lower its head. When this is done correctly the horse should stay soft and loose through the poll with its head at a vertical angle. Their head should not be pulled in towards their chest. When this happens it is referred to as 'behind' the bit.
